Grand Central Market Holidays: Pop-Ups and Performances
November 25, 2014

It doesn't snow in Southern California, but that's not stopping Downtown LA from getting into the holiday spirit! Historic food hall Grand Central Market is stirring up some seasonal magic from Saturday, December 6 to Sunday, December 7 with something for everyone.

From 9am - 6pm, retail pop-ups will offer up the perfect party gifts for all of your different kitchen, pantry and tabletop needs -- and plenty of special holiday foods to complete the spread. Among the weekend's pop-up offerings:

- Chef aprons by Hedley & Bennett
- Pickles by Rachael Narins (of Chicks With Knives)
- Flour and bread-making tools by Grist & Toll
- Tamales by Mucho Mole
- Artisanal pasta by Semolina
- Books by Brown Bag Books
- Produce and other locally-sourced goods by POP Produce
- Untraditional popsicles by Sweet Clementines Popsicles
- Bread by Clark Street Bread
- Baked tofu donuts by Ring
- Housewares by Sisters of Los Angeles
- Beef jerky by Dried and True
- Olive oil by Beyond The Olive
- Gift baskets by Fancifull
- Coffee wares by Not Neutral Coffee

Market vendors like DTLA Cheese and Valerie at GCM will also be doing holiday specials. In particular, Valerie at GCM is opening a special holiday boutique across its current stall with specialty chocolate boxes, fruitcakes and peppermint bark, alongside its current spread of decadent baked goods and cafe food.

Valerie at GCM will also be hosting the first ever Ladies in the Kitchen cookbook signing event on Saturday, December 6 from 1-2pm. Featured cookbook authors include Aarti Sequeira of Aarti Paarti, Catherine McCord of Weelicious, Akasha Richmond of Akasha Restaurant and author of Hollywood Dish, Amelia Saltsman of The Santa Monica Farmers' Market Cookbook and Valerie Gordon herself of Sweet. Attendees will sip on hot chocolate and eggnog provided by Valerie at GCM.

But what would be a holiday celebration without some holiday tunes? Starting Friday, December 5, the Market will play host to a number of performances: Friday noon carolers, Saturday morning steel drumming, Saturday afternoon klezmer and a full Sunday afternoon of Spanish-language music by LA Opera singers and a mariachi group.

Last but certainly not least, families coming to the Market can take part in some tried-and-true fun: ornament decorating with Little Junebugs and a meet-and-greet with the one-and-only Santa Claus himself. Come by to the Market's Hill Street side between 1-4pm on Saturday and 12-3pm on Sunday for some holiday bonding all ages can appreciate, and don't forget to check out our cozy column installation, Yarn-O-Polis, or our in-Market Christmas trees!
